Managing Director and PGA Professional, James Cooper's golf and business activities enabled him to experience some of the best golf ranges around the world. From private club ranges, USA Golf Academies and commercial ranges that helped him form is vision for the ultimate golf entertainment venue. The vision was to build a high quality "resort" style golf entertainment facility, and he found the perfect site right on his doorstep at the Brisbane at the Airport Precinct.
James joined forces with successful sport and business locals Peter Robertson and Jon Dooley to firm up the concept and the design. Golf Central opened stage one on December 2014 which included 29 undercover range bays, grass tees, coaching centre, a Taylormade Performance Centre, 18 hole mini golf along with a bar, cafe and events space.
Golf Central quickly became a favourite destination for both golfers and non-golfers, welcoming everyone from tour professionals to weekend players, hosting events from kids' parties to international delegations, and in 2018 becoming the first venue in the southern hemisphere to install Top Tracer technology, revolutionising the game through gamification.
Its success led to a major expansion that doubled its range bays and added new attractions including a brewery, distillery, second mini golf course, scoring centre, padel courts, and a 3,500-capacity outdoor concert space, culminating in the October 2025 launch of the Landers Pocket Precinct—home to the upgraded Golf Central, a 600-seat 4 Pines Brewery, and the Never Never Distillery—proudly operated by Brisbane locals committed to growing the city's entertainment landscape.
